Too Soon?

This a bad picture, but it is a picture of Maggie, our friend's dog that we dog sit from time to time.  Maggie has a pirate eye patch on in this picture.  Why does she have on Evan's eye patch?  Because she only has one eye, and Evan thought she needed his eye patch.  Why does she have one eye?  Funny story.  Funny now, that some time has gone by.  But it wasn't funny when it happened!  A few months ago we dog sat Ms. Maggie and her sister Dolce.  An hour after they were dropped off and put under our care, I noticed Maggie's eye was protruding out from her little head.  Over the course of the weekend, we noticed it getting redder and protruding more and more.  To make a long (and quite sad) story short, she ended up at the Vet and she lost her eye.  Apparently her sister Dolce snipped her eye and pulled it out far enough that it died.  Maggie lost her eye that weekend.  And this weekend she lost her dignity when Evan put his eye patch on her.  I didn't think he would even notice that she only had one eye, and he certainly didn't remember what happened that weekend many months ago.  But as soon as he saw her, he said..."Mommy, Evan has two eyes."  Pause.  "and Mommy, Maggie has one eye."  Pause.  "Where's my pirate eye patch, Maggie needs it?"  And now my question to you is... Is it too soon to joke?  Arrrghh.  Meet Mags, the pirate dog.  Let's hope she doesn't lose a limb this weekend, then we probably should throw in our dog sitting towel.
