A Tale of a Boy with a Case of Post-Birthday Party Blues
Evan finally realized the other day that the "party is over". The daily cards and presents arriving in the mail, the decorations, the cake...oh my goodness, the cake! It's all over. Evan has been saying "I am going to be 3!" for the last few months and even for the last week or two since he turned 3. But finally the other day, he looked at me and said "the party is over Mom, I AM 3 now". Yes, bud, the party is over. Let's start planning next year, shall we?

Evan's Astronaut Party
Saturday was Evan's Big and final, 3rd Birthday celebration. I am the first to admit, this Birthday stuff this year has been a little excessive. I will definitely have to tone it down a bit next year. Maybe next year it will just be a week of celebration instead of deeming the entire month of September, the boys' birthday. But it was so much fun, nonetheless. Saturday we had a party at the Cranium Clubhouse. It was the perfect place for an astronaut party in my mind. It started with some free play in the indoor play area, followed by a craft that incorporated my astronaut theme. Then they played games in the play area and used a parachute, sang songs and danced. This was followed by bouncing on the three bounce houses, which is Evan's personal favorite thing to do these days. Then we all moved into the party room and dined on pizza and wait for it..... homemade Rocket-ship birthday cake. I know, big surprise, you haven't heard a thing about that darn birthday cake at all over the last two months. Well, never again my friends, will you have to hear about it. Because I will never make another Rocket-ship Birthday cake ever again. Well, let's hope so.
Anyway, fun was had by all at the party. We loved celebrating with all of our friends and family. Evan has some cute friends!!! I just LOVE the picture of Evan and James hugging.

Evan's Third Cake... I lost count.
Don't think I have forgoten to post about Evan's Birthday. His main post is coming up this weekend, after the big shin-dig. This last weekend though, Evan devoured some yummy cupcakes on his actual birthday, followed by another homemade cake for Sunday night in order to celebrate with Pop and Nana during their visit. Why are birthdays so important around here? Not sure. They were never a big deal when I was growing up. Perhaps it's because Paul and I tried for three years to have this little miracle boy, or perhaps it's because we weren't sure that Drew would even make it to his first birthday 11 short months ago! Or perhaps I just like to throw a good party and spoil my boys? Probably the latter. Anyway, here are a few pictures of Evan and Pop Pop icing his third cake! And no need to adjust your screen. Pop Pop really is that tan. I am pretty sure his parents adopted him from a Native American reservation. And I don't think Evan has inherited Pop Pops ability to tan. Nope, I am pretty sure about that.

Happy Birthday Little Fishes' Style
Evan had his Birthday party at his school, Little Fishes, today. There is another classmate with the same birthday on Friday, so I wanted to do his today to make sure he didn't have to share his special day. The cake went over well. I think I got 9 out of 10 thumbs up. Jonah said it "tasted weird", as you can see his facial expression is somewhat disgusted with the scratch-made butter cream icing. I didn't take it personally. Probably never had freshly made butter cream icing. I mean, who doesn't like butter and sugar and a little vanilla extract with so much food coloring your teeth turn blue? Not me, I say. Evan was over-joyed with being the Birthday boy. This boy is not shy in the slightest, any more. He has definitely come out of his shell over the last six months or so. And boy was he hamming it up for Ms. B's camera, which I completely take offense to. Why won't you smile for me Ev? Anyway, it was a special day for Evan, and for me. Last year, I had to miss his school Birthday party, because I was in the hospital on bed rest after my water broke prematurely. But let me tell you, we are making up for missing last year's Birthday, this year. We have been celebrating for days, and his Birthday isn't until Friday!
And on a separate note, how cute is his shirt? That's from his buddy Bowen, and I just think it's adorable!!! Not sure if you can tell how cute he looks in these pictures though. Tungsten light isn't good for Evan's complexion, he is so pale, he almost looks see translucent. I believe I can count the veins in his cheeks. I think I go a little too crazy with the sun screen, No?
