Yesterday, I wanted to get a couple of things done around the house so I took out Evan's old play mat for Drew to lay on. Evan was engrossed in a Dora the Explorer episode, so I thought surely I can be productive for ten minutes?!! Well as soon as I put Drew on the play mat, Evan had to be on it too, or should I say instead. I insisted that Drew be allowed to stay on it, while I closely supervised and then I let Evan play on it. Well, now Evan won't let go of it. He has carried it around the house ever since. I am sure it's a combination of being jealous and it being a new toy. So hopefully that will wear off soon and Drew can play with it. Until then, he plays with it only when Evan is asleep.

Sibling Rivalry... Already?

Double Chins Never Looked So Good
Drew probably weighs about 7 lbs now (he has another weigh-in tomorrow, so then I will know for sure). When he was down to 4 lbs 2 oz, it was hard for me to imagine him with any fat what-so-ever. But here he is, with at least two chins. I am hoping for three in the coming weeks!! And no, it's not the camera angle that makes him look like a little chub, it's that mother's milk.
Brotherly Love
Evan has really embraced being a big brother. Don't get me wrong, he is cranky as he has ever been and the adjustment has been difficult for him. But he loves Drew so much. He loves giving him hugs and kisses, and helps me change his diaper and give him a bath. Today, I left him inside when I ran outside with Evan for just a minute, and Evan freaked out. He kept saying "baby, baby, baby". It was as if he was afraid I was going to leave Drew behind. What a good big brother he is. Here he is when he asked to give Drew a hug. Evan calls hugs "awe" because that's what he says when he gives hugs. So about a dozen times a day when I am holding Drew, Evan comes up and says "awe", meaning he wants to give the baby a hug.

James's Second Birthday Party
Cowboy Evan and his Buddies
Evan went to his friend Kaila's birthday party today. It was cowboy/cowgirl themed. They went ALL out. There were three ponies, face painting, balloon-shaped animals, music, a photographer and delicious BBQ. All that, combined with good friends, makes for a really fun celebration. Evan was too nervous to ride the pony, but he had a blast just watching them trot around the yard. He was a pretty cute cowboy, I must admit. I had an outfit picked out for Drew to wear too, but it was WAY to big, so we opted for a good ole plain onesie. He didn't even come out of my sling anyway the entire time, so I suppose it didn't matter what he wore!

State of the Starstroms
Drew's age: can't believe he is 6 weeks tomorrow, meaning tomorrow was my original due date. he is officially a newborn now and not a preemie!
Drew's weight: 6 lbs 6 oz and growing (about an ounce a day on average). he is finally out of his preemie diapers and clothes and is in newborn sizes!
Drew's sleep pattern: there is no pattern.
Evan's temperament: cranky as he has ever been.... ever. teething has nothing on becoming a big brother.
Evan's eating: no more luck with the peanut butter (darn it, I had my fingers crossed and everything) but he is drinking about one cup of strawberry milk a day!
Mommy and Daddy's sleep pattern: hmmmm, what is sleep again? haven't done much of that in, oh about 6 weeks or so!
Corky and Farley: wait, we have dogs? crap, i forgot about them. poor sissies, as if they didn't get neglected enough with just Evan here, now they are really neglected.

Like Father, Like Son
For the life of me, I can't figure out anything that Evan will consistently eat for breakfast. I used to think I would never offer my kids anything but the healthiest of choices. But when Evan's dietician instructed me to get calories in his little belly any way that I could becuase his intake was so low, I started to get desparate and try everything. From cereal to eggs, pancakes to waffles, pop tarts to toaster pastries, english muffins to toast. NOTHING seemed to work for more than a few days. But today, I tried giving him Daddy's favorite breakfast on the go. Peanut butter on a spoon. Daddy has eaten that just about every morning since I met him 8 years ago. And what other way can you get that many calories and protien in just a few bites, PERFECT for my little picky eater. Anyway, he ate it!! Whoo hoo. Now let's just see how long it lasts. Fingers crossed.
The Last of the Halloween Pictures 2009
Here are some pictures of Evan actually trick-or-treating with Daddy. Didn't feel much like Fall that night, as it was in the mid 80's. The mosquitoes ate us alive that night, and Evan was dripping with sweat after just a few houses. But that didn't hold us back from having fun with our little Nemo. Although someone did think he was a pumpkin?!

The Loot
The difference between last year's Halloween and this years is, Evan knows what candy is. And it's not so much a matter of out of sight out of mind. He knows he filled a basket with treats last night, and he very much knows what candy is. Last night he must have helped himself to a hershey bar, two things of MnMs, and like 5 lollipops, just as he was riding around in the neighborhood in the wagon. He had a blast trick or treating. He would say "TREAT" when the person would answer the door, and sometimes try and walk right in their house. He certainly wasn't shy. I can't wait for next year when I have two little guys in that wagon. But this year he stayed behind with Meema.
